UNIQUE ARTICLE !!
The Punu people (also called Bapunu, plural of Mupunu) form an ethnic group in most cases divided in the south of Gabon. Punu migrated to the south of Gabon (in the basin of Ngounié) in 18th century. They live in independent villages divided into clans and into families. Social cohesion is assured by the society Moukouji, from which the essential role is to subjugate evil minds of the forest. Their language is the yipunu. We can find persons speaking the yipunu in the provinces of Ngounié and Nyanga in most cases. Big concentrations are in the cities of Mouila, Ndendé (Ngounié); Tchibanga and Moabi (Nyanga). Today it is necessary to top up cities as Lambaréné (Moyen-Ogooué) and even the capital of the country, Libreville. In number of speakers, the yipunu ranks in second position, after the language Fang.
